Rules of the Game (updated 7/15/07)

Revised 7/15/2007

·    Foul or abusive language from players or fans results in immediate expulsion from the facility.

·    Each game consists of two 24 minute halves.  The half-time interval is 2 minutes.  No stoppage time.

·    The game ends when one team has scored 11 more goals than the other or the time expires.

·    The clock starts at the scheduled time.  A team forfeits if they cannot begin to play within 5 minutes.

·    Substitutions are done “on the fly”. (Players must be within 1 yard of the bench area before a replacement can enter.)

·    A minimum of 4 players or a maximum of 6 must be ready to play in order to start or continue any game.  Players serving time for a yellow card or serving time for a teammate who was shown the red card count towards the minimum.

·    In leagues with multiple divisions, lower division teams are limited as to the number of players allowed from more competitive divisions.  See “League Descriptions” at www.allstarsportsarena.com for rules specific to each league.  A player may not play for more than one team in the same division.

·    A valid ID must be presented upon request for proof of age or to prove that a player is on the official roster of a team.

·    Coed teams may have a maximum of 3 men on the field of play.  The goalie may be of either gender.

·    For Coed penalty kicks the gender of the kicker and the goalkeeper must be the same except during shots from the mark to break a tie.

·    Two 5 minute overtime periods will be added and played to completion to break a tie for play-off games only.  If the game is tied after overtime, kicks from the (penalty) mark will commence per the FIFA Laws of the game.  Every player who was on the field at the end of the game (including goalkeepers) must be included in the rotation unless the referee agrees to strike a player from the rotation due to injury.

·    Metal cleats are not permitted.  Indoor or turf shoes or molded cleats are recommended.

·    No slide tackles. This means that a player shall not slide if an opponent is within playing distance.  A player is considered to be sliding if he or she moves horizontally and touches the ground with any part of the body other than the feet.  (Knees, hands, etc.)  A violation results in a direct free kick.

·    No offside.

·    Opponents shall respect a distance of at least 10 feet (3 meters) from the ball on any restart.

·    All restarts must be kicked into play within 5 seconds.  Violations result in an indirect free kick for the opposing team.

·    Any free kick (direct or indirect) awarded to the attacking team for an infraction inside the penalty area must be taken from the top of the penalty area.

·    Throw-ins shall be kicked in from the side line or up to 3 feet (1 meter) inside the field and are indirect.

·    Any ball that touches the ceiling or anything attached to the ceiling shall be treated the same as a throw-in.

·    Goal kicks must be thrown in by the Goalkeeper and are in play as soon as they are thrown beyond the Penalty area.

·    Any ball thrown by the goalkeeper must touch the ground or another player before crossing the center line.  A violation results in an indirect free kick from the center line at either side of the field.

·    Every 6th direct free kick foul accumulated by a team results in a 2 minute bench penalty to be served by the player who committed the 6th foul.  The yellow card procedure will be followed, but the card will not count toward the individual.

·    A yellow card results in a 2 minute penalty.  The player may return to play if the opposing team scores a goal or the time has elapsed.

·    A red card results in a 5 minute penalty.  The offending player must leave the building.  The full penalty must be served by a teammate (In coed that player must be of the same gender).

·    No more than 2 penalties per team may be served concurrently.  Additional players will begin serving time as soon as one of the other penalties has expired.

·    If a substitute or a coach is shown a red or yellow card a field player must step off so the penalty can be served.

·    3 yellow cards accumulated during one season result in a one game suspension.  A red card wipes out previously accumulated yellow cards.

·    A red card results in a minimum 1 week suspension.  Additional time may be added at the discretion of the disciplinary committee or the facility administration.  2 red cards accumulated during one season result in a suspension for the remainder of the season.  2 multiple game suspensions within one year result in a 1 year suspension.

·    A forfeit results in a 3:0 loss unless the game has started and the score differential is 3 or more in favor of the non-forfeiting team.

·    Rosters cannot be changed after the start of 2nd to last regular season unless replacing a medically incapacitated player with the approval of the league commissioner.

·    Seasonal standings are determined by (1) points, (2) goal differential, (3) goals for, (4) head to head result during the regular season, (5) least red cards, (6) least yellow cards, and (7) coin toss.

·    Additional leagues may be added at the discretion of the facility management.  These leagues may have specific player requirements or modifications to the laws of the game that will be posted at www.allstarsportsarena.com under “League Descriptions”.

Please note that the FIFA laws of the game will be enforced with the above exceptions.
